In order to measure environmental impacts, actions and improvements, a planned approach is required. An EMS is a way for managers to match their business goals and day-to-day operations to the sustainable management of natural resources.
An EMS contains processes to monitor assess and improve environmental siustainability.
An EMS plans for continuous improvement through a cycle of Plan-Do-Monitor-Review. Periodically, environmental targets are set and performance is then monitored against those targets.
EMS should be compliant with ISO 14001 guidelines so that they are recognised as robust and complete. The process of cdeveloping and maintaining an EMS can be daunting to small to medium sized businesses (SME) and to larger corporations, so 4T provides the technical support, personnel and resources to assist client to develop an effective EMS.
4T constantly undertakes reviews of developing and existing EMS to ensure that they meet standards effectively at minimum cost and disruption to the client’s business.
An effective EMS can:
• help to organise information to assist better business decision making
• demonstrate that your business is committed to sustainable natural resource and environmental management
• help your business to gain better access into environmentally-conscious markets
• improve your business and industry image
• reduce business risks
• show that you are meeting all your statutory and legal responsibilities
• improve relations with customers, regulators, employees, neighbours and the community
